The spa and wellbeing industry is in a powerful position to provide holistic support during cancer treatment and beyond, but historic training standards and misinformation have been a barrier to providing care, causing distress both to practitioners and patients. That is the purpose of the Standards Authority for Touch in Cancer Care (SATCC),

Spa leader and founder of ESPA, Sue Harmsworth, has brought together professionals from across the health, wellbeing, education, training and skincare sectors to ensure the standard for treating cancer patients in a spa environment is second to none.

With the formation of the Standards Authority for Touch in Cancer Care (SATCC), Sue has harnessed the combined force of more than 327 years’ experience and expertise. Those involved have trained more than 10,000 therapists and counting, and are coming together to make sure spas, therapists and spa goers experience the best standards at every stage of their wellbeing journey.

SATCC are a registered charity established to set the standard in holistic oncology care and services. As a non-profit organisation they operate without sponsorship or bias. This is not a place for professional competition, but one of collaboration and leadership with the NHS, private individuals and therapists.
They are dedicated to bringing the wellness industry together to make sure destinations, practitioners and their clients experience the best standards of care and support at every stage of their cancer journey.

"The SATCC's vision is to ensure that every spa, salon and therapist within the UK, and beyond, is trained to warmly welcome anyone living with cancer."

The journey to changing that narrative is underway, but it needs to go further and be better. At the SATCC, their vision is to ensure that every spa and wellness centre has the skills they need to provide touch therapies for anyone with, being treated for or recovering from cancer, with confidence.
